Why are so many people I know, close or not, getting cancers of some kind? Is it so common that it happens so much? Or is it that I know too many people? Just coincidence?

If God designed humans, then did He design cancer too? :\

For most of my days in Hong Kong, I wake up at about 11 each day, but I woke up from sleep one early morning because I was so frustrated inside a dream where I could not recite π to the 35th decimal place. That feeling followed me into the real world. But luckily, I got it right right after I woke up, and that frustration turned to amusement, and I went back to sleep. :P

Sat Saturday SAT today.

Someone else who also arrived an hour early for the SAT test like me said she was really really nervous, and I felt none of it. I thought she was being too anxious. After the test, I recounted my feelings before and I realized that I was slightly overconfident. The english parts of the test was harder than TOEFL; much harder.

The last five minutes of each section seemed very very short. They have been the shortest five minutes I had ever had in my life. Shorter than the snooze time of my alarm clock. I bet the clock was fast. Because of that, I will never get a clock that has the second hand moving continuously.

Oh, a question in the SAT asked me what 1+1 is. Great.

While waiting at the parking lot of a supermarket for Evan to arrive, I saw a very old couple walking very slowly towards me, half a step at a time, with walking sticks. Soon, they turned to the car in the disabled parking space, which was right in front of me. They slowly loaded the groceries into the car. When they were done, the old lady put her walking stick on the rear seats, and pressing against the side of the car as support, she proceeded towards the driver’s door, and got in. The old man, who I assume is her husband, then pushed the trolley slowly towards me, looking at me. I couldn’t forget that he had serious Subconjunctival hemorrhage in his right eye. The trolley return point was right behind me, so it seemed as though he was pushing the trolley at me. I didn’t feel comfortable to have a very old man return a trolley past me, with me just standing by. So before he pushed the trolley up the sloped pavement, I stepped forward, and gently pulled it from the old man. After returning the trolley for him, the old man, who is making his way about the front of the car to get to the other side, said softly, but rather seriously, to me twice, “Don’t get old...”.

Oh, it is one hundred and ten days between April Fools’ Day and my birthday.

Spring break is coming in a week! I’m looking forward to it because of all the great events planned for that week, especially going to Evan’s place for lunch and some wagerless games. Its great to take a week off from homework, quizzes, midterms and competitions, and just have fun with friends.

I recently took part in the AMATYC SML competition that is optional and open to all students in the college. It is similar to the Math Olympiads for those of you in Singapore. I never went for it the previous two semesters because of various reasons, including but not limited to laziness. For some unknown reason, I decided to go for it the night before the competition this time. I looked at a set of past paper that midnight, and then took the test for fun, not expecting much. A week later, I was sitting somewhere outside the “Math Room” reading random articles, and David came over and said to me, “Hey Pius, they need the number one to be in there”.

Now that I have my driving permit, which is a not a full license, but a permit allowing me to learn to drive, I have about half a year to learn to drive, and then take the driving test after I turn eighteen. Last week, my uncle took me to a carpark and let me drive around using his car. It was my first time driving, and I drove for about an hour and a half. I couldn’t get precise control over the brakes and the accelerator, but I didn’t expect much since it was my first time. The sudden bursts of acceleration, and jittery braking... Everyone does that right?

Unfortunately, that is probably my last time in the driver’s seat for some time. No, I did not crash his car. No, I did not spoil anything. My uncle found out that I am not legally allowed to learn to drive in his car because I do not have car insurance. Since the type of insurance that he and the family buys is attached to the individuals rather than the cars, whatever bad things that happen when I am driving in it will not be covered, and so, I won’t be driving it anymore. Instead, I can hire a driving instructor, and drive his car, which is properly insured. But there is no point in hiring the instructor this early, since the driving test is so far away.

On to other things... I picked up my long lost skill of playing the piano recently. I never really liked any of the pieces I played when I was learning the piano, which stopped just short of six years ago, so I forgot every piece of music I played, except one. And that one is definitely not representative of what someone passing Grade 2 Piano should be capable of, and I am not proud of that at all. However, I am very surprised at how quickly I could pick up new pieces with ease, as though I never stopped learning. It feels as though I picked up from where I stopped years ago. That shows just how well my piano teacher have taught me.

I got to know who Oakland Mailer is finally. I was right on my first guess a long time ago. I don’t know why my first guesses are so accurate sometimes... What’s the point of guessing when its right the first time? It is like guessing is becoming an intuition, a spot-on intuition. But then comes the part where I start doubting this intuition, guess again, and end up wrong. Sometimes I just have to learn to trust the first guess, but sometimes I should not be so curious and be guessing at everything. I need to learn to stop thinking about things when I have to, or when I have spent more than enough time on it, and save the processing power for other proper work.

Lo and behold! I didn’t get to take the Driver’s Examination. I was filling up the license application form happily, with great excitement and anticipation of the Driver’s Examination, and then I hit the section “For Driver Under 18, Parent/Guardian Signatures Required:”.

Only my brother was with me at the Department of Motor Vehicles office, and he obviously was not my guardian. So I guess I have to find a date when my relatives are available to sign in a small little section on behalf of my parents for me.

Vehicles available to me shall remain as the bus, and the occasional ride from my brother. I must maintain my patience! I’m good at waiting. I have to be.

Even though it was rather disappointing to leave the DMV without accomplishing anything, and I had to wait two hours for the Physics class, I felt better after the Physics lab class. The Physics class finally helped to ease my feelings, and not make it worse. Today’s quiz was ridiculously easy、homework, which I finished during Tuesday’s boring class-time, was extra credit to the quiz、and the lab was pretty fun. I shall retract some of my harsh descriptions of the Physics class. Munch Munch Munch... Gulp... Retracted.

Some time had passed since I got back in USA. Its a week and two days to be exact, but it felt really long for me. It is probably due to the massive amounts of free time between every one of my classes that range from 2.5 hours to 4.6 hours. Homework is usually done within the first hour of free time. Worst of it all, the last class on three days is a Physics class. Don’t get me wrong, I still like Physics. Its just that the class’ teacher and dull atmosphere does not help with my frustration of waiting all that time for it.

I couldn’t imagine how boring any class could get before this semester started because M.Grant has been such a great and enthusiastic and lively Chemistry teacher, I raised my expectations for other science classes. She made it fun to sit in a class and relearn what I already knew. This Physics class is very different.

Now I am reading through the Driver Handbook, which has Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first page, and a stack of past papers for the written Driver’s Examination. I am taking the test tomorrow, during a 3 hour break between my classes. It should be easy. Most people say so. I hope I pass it. After passing the written test, I will have about half a year to practice driving. Once my birthday passes, I can take the driving test. Recently, I have some random thoughts coming up about selling my brother’s car and getting another one. A cheaper, older car...

Under the mess of my archives, I found more pictures of Bobo. I have added a few of them to my Gallery. It would be updated every now and then. Do check it out before exiting my blog. :P

Oakland Mailer hasn’t shown up, and I gave up trying to find out who he/she is. Anyway, thank you Oakland Mailer for giving me my second of two Christmas presents for 2008.
